Citizen Activists with the group RESULTS spoke with Denise Rocha at the WisconsinEye Studio about getting involved in the legislative process to end world hunger and poverty. The interview took place on November 21, 2008.

The 2008 Wisconsin Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) held their annual ceremony on November 20, 2008, at the State Capitol in Madison. Governor Doyle and State Superindendent Elizabeth Burmaster presented awards to Rebecca Meyer and Cheryl Wozniak for Mathematics and Karen Nesbit for Science.

The Civilian Conservation Corps celebrated their 75th anniversary at the Boerner Botanical Gardens in Hales Corners on November 20, 2008. Among those in attendance were Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, Chris Litzau of Milwaukee Community Service Corps, and Sue Black, director of Milwaukee County Parks Department.

The Wisconsin Academy, UW-Madison and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) hosted an event to highlight the accomplishments of stem cell research in the state and to examine future stem cell issues. Day two of the event took place on November 19, 2008, at the Capitol Theater at the Overture Center for the Arts in Madison.

Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent William Andrekopoulos discussed the future of MPS at the Milwaukee Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon, sponsored by Journal Communications and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Alan J. Borsuk, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel education reporter, was among the journalists participating in the discussion. The event took place at the Newsroom Pub in downtown Milwaukee on November 19, 2008.

WisPolitics.com and WisBusiness.com presented a forum titled, "State Economic Development in Recessionary Times," a post-election look at where the state economy is heading. The panelists included Commerce Secretary Richard Leinenkugel, former Commerce Secretary Cory L. Nettles of Quarles & Brady, Competitive Wisconsin Director and former Commerce Secretary William McCoshen, state Sen. Ted Kanavas, and UW-Madison political scientist Ken Goldstein. James Thomson, UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health professor and Director of Regenerative Biology and Principal Scientist at the Morgridge Institute was the keynote speaker at "A Decade Celebrating Stem Cells: Changing the Face of Medicine Ten Years Later." The event was hosted by the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters and took place at the Overture Center in Madison on November 18, 2008.

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign was host to a forum titled, "Justice, Money, & Politics," on November 18, 2008, at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Panelists included Justice N. Patrick Crooks, Justice Ann Walsh Bradley, Scott Milfred of the Wisconsin State Journal, and Mike McCabe, executive director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.

The Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce and the Council of Small Business Executives was host to a roundtable titled, "Economic Forecasting in a New Political Environment." Panelists included David A. Baumgarten, Executive Vice President, Regional Banking for Associated Banc-Corp; Gary Giesemann of Deloitte Tax LLP; Kurt Krumholz, Principal and shareholder of SVA Wealth Management, Inc.; and Timothy R. Sheehy, president of the MMAC. The event took place at the University Club on November 18, 2008.

Andy Lewis, a professor at the University of Wisconsin Extension where he serves as a Community Development Specialist in the Center for Community Economic Development, discussed community economic development strategies during an economic downturn with WisconsinEye Public Policy Producer Craig Sauer. Lewis is responsible for developing educational programs and tools that assist communities in developing strategies for improving jobs, income and quality of life.
